The results were announced by the Baseball Writers Association of America on November 13th.

Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter and starting pitcher Shohei Othani won the 2025 NL MVP Award, receiving all 30 first-place votes for a total of 420.

Just as a DH, Ohtani led all MLB players in runs scored (146), slugging percentage (.622), OPS (1.014), OPS+ (179), intentional walks (20) and total bases (380).

It's Ohtani's third consecutive MVP Award and fourth overall. He won the American League award in 2023 and National League award in 2024. Schwarber finished second with 260. New York Mets' outfielder Juan Soto finished third with 231.

“If you would ask the three of us who was really the heartbeat of the Philadelphia Phillies in ’25, I think we all agree it was Schwarber,”MLB Network’s Dan Plesac said.

Schwarber was a two-time first-team All-American at Indiana. A .341 hitter in college, he ranks among the top 10 in school history in home runs (40), hits (238), runs (182) and slugging percentage (.607). He also helped lead the Hoosiers to their most recent trip to the College World Series in 2013.

The following year, he became the baseball program’s highest-drafted player when the Chicago Cubs chose him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2014 Draft.

Schwarber enters this 2025-26 off-season as one of the biggest free agents in recent memory. The former Hoosier is the Phillies’ top priority in free agency as they look to retain him to a team already loaded with talent incuding Trae Turner, Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto. Schwarber joined the Philles in 2022.
