Curt Cignetti has put together a solid 2027 recruiting class that features a handful of blue chip prospects.

Among Indiana's current 16 commits for the 2027 cycle, half a dozen are blue chip prospects. Those names consist of EDGE Myles Smith, LB Jalaythan Mayfield, OT Mason McDermott, and DL Reinaldo Lopez, who are all considered 4-star recruits by Rivals. Furthermore, S Brady Scott recently earned a 4th-star from ESPN and WR Branden Sharpe gained 4-star status from 247Sports.

While Cignetti has brought in great 4-star talent, a pair of 4-star commits decommitted from Indiana earlier this spring. WR Ja'Hyde Brown has since committed to Louisville, while CB Monsanna Torbert Jr. is still in his decision-making process. However, Torbert is set to announce his new commitment decision this week, and multiple Big Ten teams are in the mix.

According to 247Sports, Torbert will announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 1 at 5 p.m. ET. His decision will be announced live on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel.

Why picking Josh Hoover is looking like an even better portal win for Curt Cignetti

The 4-star prospect is set to decide between Michigan and Ohio State. The race is tight, and recruiting experts are torn on what Torbert will decide. The On3 Prediction Machine features prediction from five recruiting experts, and three believe Torbert will head to Ohio State while two expect him to land at Michigan.

The Rivals Industry Consensus is giving the edge to the Buckeyes. There, Ohio State is listed with a 61.5% chance of landing Torbert, while Michigan sits with a 37.1% chance.

Indiana is still technically listed in his list of finalists, but given his recent decommitment from IU, it would be pretty surprising to see Torbert commit to Indiana for a second time.

Monsanna Torbert set to join different Big Ten program after decommitment from Indiana

At the time of his decommitment away from Indiana, Torbert was Indiana's highest-ranked prospect in the 2027 class. Hailing from Princeton High School in Cincinnati, the 5'11" 175-pound prospect is one of the top prospects in The Buckeye State. He is ranked by Rivals as the No. 4 overall player in the state as well as the No.14 CB and No. 97 overall recruit in the 2027 cycle.

Losing Torbert was tough enough, but seeing him go to a different Big Ten school will only put salt in the wound for Hoosier football fans.

As it stands, Indiana owns the No. 29 recruiting class in the country for the 2027 cycle according to Rivals. Torbert is set to join either an Ohio State program that holds the No. 5 spot in those rankings, or a Michigan program who claims the No. 13 spot on the list.

Despite losing Torbert, Cignetti still has Indiana's 2027 recruiting class in a good spot. Plus, Cignetti has shown that he doesn't need to rely too heavily on bringing in blue chip prospects in order to win a National Championship. No matter what happens with Torbert on Wednesday, Hoosier football fans won't be daunted and have plenty of faith in Cignetti.
