The Indiana Hoosiers saw their 22-game win streak end this weekend with a 19-15 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. It was the first Top-5 matchup in the history of Memorial Stadium, as the Hoosiers entered the highly-anticipated matchup ranked No. 5 while the Buckeyes were No. 4.

Naturally, Indiana was expecting to drop in the new AP Poll rankings after suffering its first loss of the season. Fortunately for the Hoosiers, Week 7 was full of chaos in the world of college football. Five of the Top-7 teams lost, which caused plenty of huge shake-ups in the newest AP Poll that was released on Sunday afternoon. Thanks to the chaos, Indiana avoided a major slide in the rankings.

Indiana avoids major fall in AP Poll following Ohio State loss

The Week 7 AP Poll was released on Sunday afternoon, and Indiana now claims the No. 6 spot. The Hoosiers drop just one spot from No. 5 to No. 6 following a closely-contested battle with Ohio State. The Buckeyes unsurprisingly moved up, as they are now in the No. 3 spot.

The Miami Hurricanes now own the top spot after surviving an overtime thriller against in-state rival Florida State. Miami's performance wasn't overly-impressive, and if it weren't for other Top-10 teams suffering losses, the Hurricanes would not have moved up to No. 1. BYU jumped up from No. 8 to No. 2 after taking down Notre Dame in an instant classic on Saturday night in Provo. Notre Dame fell to No. 4.

Including Indiana, other teams ranked in the Top-7 spots of last week's AP Poll that lost in Week 7 include No. 1 Georgia vs Auburn, No. 2 Notre Dame at BYU, No. 6 Alabama at Tennessee, and No. 7 Texas vs Florida. Thanks to that chaos, Indiana avoided falling further in the AP Poll. The Hoosiers started the season at No. 6 in the AP Poll, and that's where they stand after seven games.

Along with Ohio State at No. 3 and Indiana at No. 6, other Big Ten teams featured in this week's poll include UCLA at No. 9, Iowa at No. 15, USC at No. 16, and Northwestern at No. 24.

Indiana looking to bounce back on the road at Michigan in Week 8

Following their first loss since December 2024, the Hoosiers are now in a position they haven't been in much under Curt Cignetti. Indiana is now looking to bounce back, but another tricky matchup awaits. The Hoosiers now heading up north to Ann Arbor to battle the Michigan Wolverines in Week 8. Michigan is 4-2 and unranked.

This will be Indiana's first trip to The Big House under Cignetti. The Wolverines have struggled mightily this season, but they are still a dangerous team. Their defense is arguably the best in the Big Ten, and backup QB Tommy Carr gave the Michigan offense a much-needed spark after Bryce Underwood was benched this past weekend against Penn State. It will be interesting to see how Michigan's QB situation develops over the course of the next week. Kick-off between the Hoosiers and Wolverines is slated for Noon ET on FOX.
