As the Indiana Hoosiers continue prepping to defend their National Championship title, Curt Cignetti and his staff continue building IU's future recruiting classes. Indiana landed commitments from 3-star defensive back Rico Jackson and 3-star offensive tackle Mason McDermott over the weekend, and more commits could be on the way.
Curt Cignetti lands commitment from 2027 CB that perfectly fits his style
Several top recruits took official visits to Bloomington over the weekend, and among them was 4-star running back Tre Segarra. Hailing from Duncan, SC, Segarra is a top-5 running back prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. Along with being the No. 5 running back in the country, Segarra is the No. 2 player in South Carolina and the No. 121 overall prospect in the country according to 247Sports.
Segarra's visit to Bloomington was the next step in his recruitment process, and the visit seems to have gone well. Following his visit, one quote from Segarra stands out as Cignetti and company continue to push for the highly-touted prospect.
Tre Segarra speaks highly of Indiana's winning culture under Curt Cignetti
Following his visit to Bloomington, Segarra spoke very highly of the winning culture that Cignetti has built.
"It was exciting," said Segarra. "You could really feel the winning culture that was being developed in the building."

Along with Indiana, Segarra's list of finalists also includes South Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, and Stanford. He is slated to visit all of his finalists in the coming weeks.
This past season, Segarra totaled 1,460 yards and 17 touchdowns on 174 carries while also collecting 19 catches for 198 yards and 4 touchdowns in the passing game. Indiana has yet to add a running back to its 2027 recruiting class, and landing Segarra would be a great place to start.
Indiana's historic title run fuels recruiting buzz
In the past, blue chip recruits would never really give Indiana the time of day. But now that has changed.
The Hoosiers have taken the college football world by storm with Cignetti at the helm, and there isn't much to suggest that things will slow down any time soon. Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned for another CFP run this season, and it's clear that the Hoosiers have plenty of staying power with Cig leading the way.
Now, Indiana is firmly in the mix when it comes to 4 and 5-star recruits across the country. Cignetti has proven that he can win without having a roster full of blue chip recruits, but imagine what he can do with those kinds of high-rated prospects.
If Cignett is able to seal the deal with Segarra in the coming months, he would be the highest ranked running back recruit for Cignetti during his time in Bloomington so far. That speaks volumes about how far the Indiana football program has come in such a short amount of time.
