May continues to be a big month for Indiana football recruiting. Curt Cignetti and his staff have hosted a plethora of prospects over the past several weeks, and 11 more recruiting targets are slated to take official visits to Bloomington this coming weekend.

Among the recruits slated to visit Indiana this weekend is 4-star safety Davion Jones. The Hoosiers are locked in a tightly-contested recruiting battle for Jones, who is ranked as the No. 1 safety in the state of North Carolina and the No. 15 safety in the country for the 2027 recruiting class according to 247Sports.

On Tuesday, Jones revealed his list of five finalists that he is still deciding between. To the delight of Hoosier football fans, Indiana is on the list. Along with IU, Cignetti is competing with Auburn, LSU, Georgia, and South Carolina for Jones' services.

Indiana's 2027 recruiting class currently features just four players. The class is led by 4-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert Jr, and a combination between Torbert and Jones could yield tremendous results for Indiana should Jones end up in Bloomington.

Also featured in the class is 3-star quarterback Jameson Purcell, 3-star linebacker Garyon Hobbs, and 3-star offensive tackle Jeremiah Jones. The class is currently ranked No. 55 in the country by 247Sports, and with just four recruits, Cignetti needs to start adding talent.

He has a great opportunity this weekend with the 11 official visits taking place, and has a great chance to make a lasting impression on Jones.

Jones' visit to Bloomington is slated to commence on Friday, May 15. With four other premiere programs also in the hunt, it's imperative that Cignetti and the Hoosiers set up a successful visit.

After visiting Indiana this weekend, Jones is also scheduled to visit all of his finalists later this spring. He will be at Georgia later this month on May 29, Auburn on June 5, LSU on June 12, and South Carolina on June 12. With the competition heating up, Hoosier fans are hoping Cignetti and company roll out the red carpet this weekend.

Should he end up coming to Indiana, Jones would become IU's highest-ranked prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. That title currently belongs to Torbert, who is ranked as the No. 195 overall player in the 2027 class by 247Sports. Jones is a bit higher in the rankings, coming in at No. 173.

Cignetti has been in pursuit of Jones for a while, as he extended the 5'11" 165-pound safety an offer back on January 30, 2025. Among Jones' five finalists, only South Carolina offered Jones before Indiana. It will be interesting to see if that early faith from Cignetti and his staff has an impact on Jones' decision-making process. At this time, Jones has yet to announce an official commitment decision date.
