It's no secret that Curt Cignetti leans heavily on the transfer portal. That is commonplace in today's era of college football, and nobody has mastered the portal quite like Cignetti. Cignetti's transfer portal success in Bloomington has led the Indiana football program to new heights, which includes a perfect 16-0 record and National Championship last season.

Heading into the new season, Indiana has a talented portal class to lean on once again. A total of 17 transfers will don the Cream and Crimson this fall, and if Indiana is going to compete for another national title, these five new faces will have to lead the way.

QB Josh Hoover

The most obvious selection for this list is QB Josh Hoover. Indiana figures to have a well-balanced offense that doesn't rely solely on QB play, but it's clear that Hoover's performance will greatly determine how Indiana's season goes. The former TCU gunslinger has plenty of experience and is extremely familiar running the RPO-heavy style that Cignetti and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan want to run. Thus, he seems to be in a great position with his new team.

WR Nick Marsh

Former Michigan State WR Nick Marsh is one of Cignetti's biggest gets in the portal this offseason. Marsh was ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 13 overall player on the market by On3, and figures to play a large part in Indiana's passing attack. Returning WR Charlie Becker will also have a large role, but the pair have different skill sets. Becker thrives at contested jump balls down the field, while Marsh excels at racking up yards after the catch. Together, they have the potential to be among the most lethal receiving combinations in all of college football.

RB Turbo Richard

Transferring in from Boston College, new Indiana RB Turbo Richard has all the makings of a star. Along with having an incredible name for a running back, Richard possesses a dynamic skill set that officially has him on breakout watch. Last season with Boston College, Richard racked up 749 yards and 9 touchdowns on his 145 carries, which was good for an impressive average of 5.2 yards per carry. He can also chip in with the passing game, as he collected 30 catches for 213 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season.

EDGE Tobi Osunsanmi

Coming over from Kansas State, EDGE Tobi Osunsanmi is poised to make an immediate impact with the Hoosiers. He is Indiana's highest-ranked defensive portal addition, slotting in as the No. 10 EDGE and No. 73 overall transfer player according to On3. Osunsanmi was limited to just six games last season with the Wildcats, but he made the most of his opportunities. The Wichita, KS native racked up 6.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks to go along with 20 total tackles. He also added a fumble recovery for good measure. Indiana's defensive front has multiple effective returners, but the addition of Osunsanmi gives the IU pass rush plenty of potential.

IOL Joe Brunner

Returning offensive lineman Carter Smith is getting all of the attention on Indiana's offensive line, and deservedly so. But bringing in Joe Brunner from Wisconsin is a great move by Cignetti. Keeping Hoover upright will be of the utmost importance this season, and Cignetti went out and got one of the best offensive linemen available. Brunner was the 2nd-ranked interior offensive lineman in the portal by On3. Indiana's offensive line has been a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award in back-to-back seasons, and the addition of Brunner gives the Hoosiers a legitimate chance to win it this season.
