Curt Cignetti is putting in work on the recruiting trail this offseason. Cignetti has landed verbal commitments from eight players over the last month, and more could be on the way. The month of June is a key period for recruiting, and Cignetti has the Hoosiers poised to bring in more elite talent in the coming weeks.

There is arguably no prospect garnering more attention right now than 5-star WR Monshun Sales. Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned to land the highly-coveted prospect, but the competition is fierce. Sales took an official visit to Alabama last weekend, and he has three more visits scheduled for Texas on June 5, Ohio State on June 12, and Miami (FL) on June 19.

With the recruiting race for Sales heating up in a major way, there are multiple reasons as to why IU fans should be locked into his recruitment. Cignetti landing Sales would be a historic recruiting achievement for Indiana in multiple ways.

Monshun Sales can be the first 5-star commit at Indiana

Cignetti has proven that he doesn't need a roster full of blue-chip recruits to be successful. He was able to lead Indiana to a National Championship in just his second season with a roster consisting of mostly under-the-radar recruits. With that being said, imagine what Cignetti could do with 5-star talent.

The Hoosiers have never landed a 5-star prospect in program history, but Sales can change that. Hailing from right down the road at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, landing a local 5-star product like Sales would be a huge win for the Hoosiers.

Sales can help Indiana reach a program-best recruiting ranking

Cignetti's recent recruiting hot streak has Indiana trending in the right direction when it comes to national recruiting rankings. IU's 2027 class entered the month of May ranked No. 52 in the country, and now sits at No. 30 nationally according to Rivals. Things are moving in the right direction, but Cignetti is far from done.

Sales is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the state of Indiana and the No. 1 wide receiver in the country according to 247Sports. Thus, landing a player of his caliber would catapult Indiana up the recruiting rankings in a hurry.

The highest-ranked recruiting class in IU history came a few years ago in 2022 with a No. 25 ranking in the country. Given the work that Cignetti has already put in, adding Sales to the mix would put Indiana in a great spot to secure its best recruiting class ranking in program history.

Indiana has a chance to knock out the Blue Bloods

The finalists in Sales' recruitment include Indiana, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, and Miami (FL). Not long ago, Indiana was not expected to compete with blue blood programs for 5-star talent. But Cignetti has changed that in a major way.

Cignetti's historic success in Bloomington has now pushed Indiana to the forefront of college football recruiting. Now, blue-chip prospects like Sales are seriously considering the Hoosiers. In fact, Indiana can be considered the frontrunners in Sales' recruitment. On May 14, Rivals' Steve Wiltfong logged an expert prediction for Sales to land in Bloomington.

Landing an elite recruit of Sales' caliber would prove that Indiana has plenty of staying power on the recruiting trail under Cignetti's leadership.
