Indiana Basketball: What the Hoosiers would get with Patterson

Archie Miller has been killing it on the recruiting trail, as he brought in a great 2020 class and is already looking to do even better in 2021. He already has a commitment from Logan Duncomb, a 4-star center from Cincinnati, Ohio. But if he could get a commitment from Patterson it would already have the 2021 class as one of the best in the country.

Obviously Patterson is a great athlete, but what exactly would the Hoosiers get if he chose Indiana? According to director of basketball scouting Jerry Meyer, the Hoosiers would be getting a player with a lot of upside but some things to work on:

"Has an athletic build, but just average size for a combo forward. Is a run-and-jump athlete more than a lateral or explosive athlete. Shoots the ball well to behind the arc, but has a slow release at this point. Can attack the rim going right and is a pull-up shooter going left. Has good body control around the rim and can finish with either hand. Comfortable posting up. Ball handling and passing have room for improvement. Versatile defender but not a high-impact defender."

Patterson is the kind of athlete that fits well into what Miller is trying to do on offense. A lengthy guy that can run the floor and finish at the rim.

He also needs to work on his shot some, but has shown good range in high school. If he can become a threat from the outside he turns into a matchup nightmare for other teams.

The Hoosiers would be getting a great player, that would pair up well with Trayce Jackson-Davis if they can get him to stay for his Junior season. They could create quite a frontcourt duo for the Hoosiers.

Villanova may be in the lead to land the talented forward, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he picked the Hoosiers. Indiana surprised when they pulled in Khristian Lander and it would be another steal if they could get Patterson.

Patterson will announce his decision at 7 pm eastern time on The Front Office along with his Instagram and Twitter page. Stay tuned but Thursday night could be a very good one for the Hoosiers.
