Indiana Basketball: Get to know these 2020 prospects
By Alec Lasley
With the 2019 recruiting class almost all but locked up, we turn our sites to some of the names to get familiarized with in the 2020 class.
There is still a long time to go before most of the 2020 recruiting class commits to their respective schools, but it’s never too early to start learning about some of the top talent in and around the state.
Anthony Leal and Khrisian Lander are two of the top prospects in the state, both high on the Hoosiers list. I recently broke down Indiana’s involvement with them and some of their highlight performances since the season started.
Another name that Archie Miller is high on is Ethan Morton, from right near his hometown in western Pennsylvania. Again, you can read what I had to say regarding his initial recruitment and where the Hoosiers stand, in an earlier article.
Now it’s time to take a look at some of the other names that could eventually become the next wave of Indiana basketball, in this weeks recruiting roundup.
Jaden Ivey (SG; Mishawaka Marian High School)
On the state’s top-ranked Class 3A team, Marian High School, Ivey is an electrifying combo guard with tremendous athleticism.
At just 6-foot-2, Ivey plays above the rim any chance he gets. Extremely explosive, he has the ability to score wherever he wants on the court.
Still lacking a consistent mid-range game, Ivey has good range from three and can score at will with either hand in the paint.
With already four 30-point games this season, his stock will continue to soar, as he is just a three-star guard currently.
Because Jaden Ivey’s mom is a former player and current assistant coach for Notre Dame, there is a strong consensus that Ivey is an Irish lean, but the Hoosiers will definitely continue to build a relationship and work hard on stealing him out of South Bend.
Season Average: 25.3 points, 2.2 rebounds. 2.3 steals, 55% FG, 39% 3pt
Dawson Garcia (PF; Prior Lake High School)
A consensus four-star, fringe five-star, prospect has a lot of high major interest already.
Schools such as Wisconsin, Texas, Xavier, and Minnesota have been on Garcia for a while but it is the Hoosiers that could be the team to beat, eventually.
Garcia, a smooth lefty, has tremendous skill and versatility. WIth ball handling skills of a guard, and the ability to score over either shoulder in the post, Garcia also takes advantage of slower defenders out on the wing.
Although he has the ability to make from distance, he hasn’t found a consistent stroke from deep.
Ranked No. 2 in the state of Minnesota, Garcia has already pumped out a 40 point game this season.
Season Average: 29.7 points, 12.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 blocks, 62% FG
