Curt Cignetti has the Indiana Hoosiers in a solid spot on the recruiting trail.

Cignetti has secured 12 total commitments in the 2027 cycle, and currently has IU occupying the No. 31 spot in the country in the Rivals Recruiting Rankings. Over the last four years, Indiana has brought in high school recruiting classes ranked No. 59, 60, 53, and 30 in the nation. When it comes to the 2027 class, Cignetti has Indiana well-positioned to post a much better ranking that what Hoosier fans have seen over the last few years.

As strong as IU's 2027 class is right now, Cignetti isn't done yet. In fact, given the opportunities that are awaiting, it's very possible that Indiana's 2027 recruiting class is just getting started.

Indiana is on the cusp of landing two more massive recruiting wins

Indiana's 2027 class currently features four blue chip recruits: 4-star EDGE Myles Smith, 4-star OT Mason McDermott, 4-star DL Reinaldo Lopez, and 4-star WR Branden Sharpe. In the very near future, Cignetti could land two more blue chippers -- including Indiana's first-ever 5-star high school commit.

The Indiana game nobody is talking about could end up being the most important

On Friday, June 19, 4-star LB Jalaythan Mayfield is set to make announce his commitment decision. Mayfield is one of the most coveted defensive prospects who remains uncommitted, and he is set to choose between Indiana, Georgia, and Miami (FL). He is ranked as the No. 228 overall player and the No. 20 linebacker in the country for the 2027 class according to Rivals.

Indiana appears to be in the driver's seat to secure a commitment from Mayfield. Rivals Industry Consensus currently gives the Hoosiers a strong 90.3% to seal the deal with Mayfield.

Indiana is also locked in high-stakes recruiting battle for 5-star WR Monshun Sales. Hailing from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Sales is ranked as the No. 1 WR and No. 8 overall player in the 2027 cycle by Rivals.

Like Mayfield, the Hoosiers can be considered the frontrunners at this point in time of Sales' recruitment. Rivals Industry Consensus is currently giving Indiana an 81.7% to land the elite in-state product.

However, nothing is set in stone just yet. Multiple schools have made heavy pushes for Sales over the last few weeks. The 6'5" 195-pound wideout has taken Official Visits to Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU in recent weeks, which has the competition heating up in a major way. He is also set to visit Texas this weekend.

Indiana chasing 10 Big Ten teams in national recruiting rankings

As it stands, a total of 10 other Big Ten teams are ranked ahead of the Hoosiers in the national recruiting rankings. But Cignetti has a pair of massive opportunities on his hands that can drastically change that.

Securing commitments from Mayfield and/or Sales over the coming weeks would do wonders for Indiana's 2027 class. Not only would it instantly catapult IU up in the rankings, but it would signal to the rest of the country that Indiana is capable of landing elite blue chip talent at a high rate.

That wasn't the case before, but Cignetti has changed the national perception of the IU program for the better in a major way.
