Since taking over at the helm of the Indiana football program, all Curt Cignetti has done is win. Just Google him.

When he was named as IU's next head coach on November 30, 2023, Cignetti took over a Hoosier program that had the most losses in college football history. Since then, Cignetti has led Indiana to a 27-2 overall record with a 17-1 mark in Big Ten play.

This past season, Cignetti led the Hoosiers to a perfect 16-0 season that culminated in a historic National Championship. Indiana's national title now puts the Hoosiers in rarified air in college athletics.

Indiana joins Michigan and Ohio State in college sports lore

Only three schools have ever won an NCAA men's basketball national title as well as a College Football Playoff title: The Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and now, the Indiana Hoosiers.

If you were to show this graphic to an Indiana football fan three years ago, they would have looked at you like you were from Mars.

The Hoosiers posted an overall record of 7-27 and won just three Big Ten games in the final three years of the Tom Allen era in Bloomington. Along with having the most losses in college football history, the Hoosiers were among the worst teams in the country and seemed destined to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

But hiring Curt Cignetti changed everything.

Indiana's turnaround under Curt Cignetti is the best story in sports

Indiana's turnaround under Cignetti is among the greatest turnaround stories in sports history. IU had not won a bowl game since 1991, and had just three bowl wins in its entire history before 2025.

Cignetti doubled that number this season.

During their historic national title run, the Hoosiers won the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl, as well as the CFP National Championship Game. Furthermore, Cignetti also led Indiana to its first Big Ten Championship since 1967.

Cignetti has now put the Indiana football program in historic company, and figures to have the Hoosiers competing for another title this season. The last team to win back-to-back national titles was Georgia in 2021 and 2022, and Indiana has a chance to become just the 6th program to win consecutive National Championships in college football history.
