It is a story that has been told many times before, Mike Woodson was able to keep his team in the game, but was unable to finish it and walk away with the win. It has been roughly three weeks since the Indiana Hoosiers were in the win column and it doesn't seem like they know how to get back there at this point.
Granted, Indiana did come back from an 18-point deficit to make it a game late in the second half, but when it mattered most and Indiana had chances to take the lead, they just couldn't buy a bucket and Michigan went to work to close out a 70-67 win that could have been a 70-64 win if it wasn't for a buzzer-beater three-pointer by Anthony Leal.
The good news is that Malik Reneau, for the first time since coming back from injury, led the Hoosiers in scoring with 16 points, his most points in a game since coming back from that knee injury.
This was the first game since it was announced that Woodson would be stepping down and retiring at the end of the season. This was music to the ears of Indiana fans, but they still have to get through the rest of the season with the fourth-year head coach.
It looked as though Woodson wouldn't go down without a fight today as he faced Dusty May, a former Indiana Hoosier, who made his homecoming after spending four years as an assistant to legendary Indiana coach Bob Knight. May left his homecoming with a win, and maybe a seed of thought about joining the Hoosiers as their head coach next season.
Looking at the games left on the Hoosiers' schedule, they need to win big and upset both Michigan State and Purdue in their last few games, as well as win the so-called "easy games." The Hoosiers have a lot of work to do, but the window of the NCAA Tournament is closing fast and if they don't stop this losing streak, they will be reduced to a Cinderella story of winning the Big Ten Tournament to get into March Madness.
