There is no hotter name in basketball coaching right now than Michigan's Dusty May.

Under May's leadership, the Wolverines are 64-13 (.699) overall to go along with a strong 33-7 (.825) mark in Big Ten play during his two seasons in Ann Arbor. May led Michigan to a national title in April, and his name continues to be floated around as a potential NBA head coaching candidate.

Both the Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic expressed interest in May earlier this spring, but nothing materialized from that interest. Now, another NBA team is entering the mix.

Dusty May garnering more head coaching interest from NBA

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are targeting May for their vacant head coaching position. Dallas fired Jason Kidd last month, and now the franchise is expected to pursue conversations with May over the next few weeks.

The Mavericks have been among the steadiest winners in the NBA over the past 10+ years, but they are coming off a season in which they won just 26 games and missed the playoffs. Still, Dallas is an extremely respectable NBA franchise that is an appealing job for a lot of reasons.

Most notably, the Mavericks have former No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg. He looks like a superstar in the making, and is the central piece needed to rebuild a proud franchise.

May's stock is extremely high right now after leading the Wolverines to a National Championship, more NBA distractions are the last thing Wolverine fans want to see right now. At the same time, Indiana fans wouldn't be sad to see May leave the college ranks for the NBA.

Indiana fans would be thrilled if Dusty May left Michigan for the NBA

May's immediate success in Ann Arbor presented plenty of problems for the Hoosiers. The Wolverines had fallen on tough times under Jawan Howard, but May immediately turned things around. In a Big Ten conference that is already extremely talented and full of depth, Michigan becoming a national contender in Year 1 with May at the helm made life even more difficult.

An IU alum, May is 2-0 against his alma mater. Michigan defeated Indiana 70-67 in Bloomington during May's first season with the Wolverines. May and company would then defeat IU by a score of 86-72 this past January.

After winning one national title, it's clear that the Wolverines have plenty of staying power with May leading the way. The coach of the Maize and blue has re-tooled his roster with an elite recruiting class as well as multiple transfer additions that have Michigan well-positioned to compete for another title next season. Specifically, Michigan boast the No. 4 incoming recruiting class and the No. 12 transfer portal class in the country according to 247Sports.

It's already salt in the wound for Hoosier basketball fans having to watch an Indiana alum lead a different Big Ten team to a natty. Thus, Indiana fans won't be sad if May ultimately decides to leave Michigan for the NBA.
