Hoosier Hysteria unofficially tipped off the 2024-25 Indiana men's and women's basketball season tonight at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
This is what Men's head basketball coach Mike Woodson had to say about Hoosier Hysteria and what it means to his team and the fans:
“We were excited to rollout this new format of Hoosier Hysteria. Getting our team in front of Hoosier Nation has always been a priority for this ball club. The scrimmage was our first chance for our fans to get a look at our new players and most importantly will gave our guys a taste of playing competitive basketball in front of the most passionate fans in the game" said Woodson
Forty-five years ago, I left this arena winning a Big 10 title. And the fan base hasn't changed. After all these years, we got the best fans in college basketball.
Mike Woodson's squad fell short of the tournament last year finishing 23-12, but they are ranked No. 17 in the preseason AP Poll
Teri Moren the IU women's head coach had this to say about her team ranked No. 25 in the preseason
“I want to see those rafters filled every night,” Moren said, calling upon Hoosier fans. “I believe this team is going to be special, this program is going to be special. Show up.”
Last season, Indiana women’s basketball lost 79-75 in heartbreaking fashion to the eventual national champion University of South Carolina in the Sweet 16.
The Lady Hoosiers are looking to redeem themselves and make another run at the Sweet 16 and more in 2024.
One of the biggest moments in IU athletics will be tomorrow when the Hoosiers face Nebraska at Noon ET. The Big Noon Kickoff pregame show cast – Mark Ingram II, Matt Leinart, Urban Meyer, Brady Quinn and Rob Stone – were in attendance on Friday and got a chance to hype up the Indiana crowd on homecoming weekend.
“You may go to the college football playoffs,” Stone told the Indiana fans.
Indiana women's first game will be against Brown at home November 4th. The men's hoops team will play SIU Edwardsville at home November 6th.
