Indiana offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan has been named one of the top offensive coordinator's ahead of the 2025 season by Andy Staples of On3 Sports
Staples ranked Shanahan No. 4 overall in the nation behind; Oregon's Will Stein, Notre Dame's Mike Denbrock and Miami's Shannon Dawson.
At Indiana in his first season, the Hoosiers and coach Shanahan made the College Football Playoff with their only losses coming to Notre Dame and Ohio State. The Hoosiers went 11-2 and senior quarterback Kurtis Rourke finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy race, completing 222-of-320 passes (69.4 percent, eighth nationally) for 3,042 yards (9.5 per attempt, third) with 29 touchdowns against just five interceptions under Shanahan.
The Hoosiers run game was also explosive as Indiana ran for 165 yards per game and 4.37 per carry in 2024. Senior running back (graduate) Justice Ellison led the Hoosiers ground efforts, running 159 times for 848 yards -- the most by a Hoosier since 2018 and 10 touchdowns.
He shared carries with senior graduate Ty Son Lawton, who added 668 yards and a team-high dozen touchdowns, which tied for fourth in the Big Ten.
Indiana averaged 426.4 yards per game ranking them 16th overall in all of FBS. The Hoosiers also averaged 41.3 points per game in 2024, the second-most in college football. That's a huge improvement from the year before where they only averaged 313.4 yards per game and 22.2 points per game.
Kurtis Rourke was also a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors, while Indiana offensive stars Elijah Sarratt and center Mike Katic were Third Team All-B1G honorees.

Previous to his time at Indiana, Shanahan spent time at his alma mater Pittsburgh as a graduate assistant in 2014. He coached wide receivers at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Elon and James Madison under Curt Cignetti. He was then promoted to offensive coordinator at James Madison in 2021-2023 before taking the same role at Indiana in 2024.
Indiana's offensive looks to say potent in 2025 with the new additions of quarterback Fernando Mendoza, running backs Roman Hemby and Lee Beebe Jr, tight end Holden Staes, offensive lineman Pat Coogan, Zen Michalski and Kahlil Benson.
The Hoosiers also return stars in Elijah Sarratt, Omar Cooper Jr, Carter Smith, Kaelon Black.
