Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers made history on Friday afternoon.

Monshun Sales, a 5-star WR from Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, announced his commitment to Indiana live on The Pat McAfee Show. Sales is among the most coveted prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, and is ranked as the No. 7 overall player in the country by Rivals. He is the first 5-star high school commit in Indiana football program history, which gives Curt Cignetti yet another historic achievement during his tenure in Bloomington.

Right after announcing his commitment, Sales answered some questions from McAfee and spoke about his decision-making process. His comments about Cignetti are already making him a fan favorite among the Hoosier faithful.

There is a lot to like about Sales. Along with his eye-popping ability between on the field, his mentality, work ethic, and respect for Cignetti's coaching style are already making him a beloved figure in The Hoosier State.

When asked about his relationship and expectations for playing under Cignetti's leadership, Sales gave an answer that will have IU fans everywhere fired up.

"Coach Cig is a straight up guy, and he’s always going to keep it real with you. He’s not going to sit there and tell you what you want to hear. Coming from Coach Mallory (Lawrence North head coach Patrick Mallory), that’s just what he built into me in high school, so it just kind of clicked instantly. I don’t want a guy who’s just going sit there and tell me what I want to hear and just give me bulls***. I want to work for everything."

That is exactly what Indiana football fans want to hear. Sales has all the attributes to make him a star on the field, but this kind of approach to his collegiate career at Indiana figures to make him a perfect fit for Cignetti's system.

Monshun Sales isn't shying away from the work that's ahead

Cignetti has proven that he doesn't need a roster full of blue chip recruits to win a national title. He is a great talent evaluator, and isn't primarily focused bringing in 4 and 5-star recruits. Sure that kind of talent could help, but Cignetti has shown that he is more focused on bringing in the right players to thrive in his system.

Sales is a great mixture of both.

Owning a 6'5" 195-pound frame, Sales is described by 247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins as playmaker as "one of the biggest freakshows in the country with his hulking frame and elite athletic markers." He possesses elite playmaking ability, great hands, and blinding speed as a track star at Lawrence North.

It's clear that he is a can't-miss prospect, and those well-rounded attributes give Hoosier fans plenty to look forward to when Sales takes the field as Memorial Stadium. His comments about Cignetti's leadership style also signal that he is a great fit for all that comes with playing for a Cignetti-led program.

Sales is the 17th commit to join Indiana's 2027 recruiting class. As it stands, the Hoosiers own the No. 28 recruiting class in the country according to Rivals. Now that Sales is on board, that ranking figures to get even better over the next few weeks.
