Indiana Hoosiers defensive lineman Mikail Kamara was named a Third-team All-American selection by the Associated Press on Monday.
In his first season with the Hoosiers, the James Madison transfer Kamara started all 12 games and had 44 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and one pass deflection. Kamara was tied for second in the Big Ten in sacks, ranked second in tackles for loss and tied for sixth in forced fumbles. Kamara also led the Power-4 in total quarterback pressures during the regular season, according to Pro Football Focus.
Kamara helped lead one of the best defenses in the country. Indiana led the country in rushing defense (70.8 yards allowed per game), ranked second in total yards allowed per game (244.8), and was sixth in the country in scoring defense (14.7 points per game).
The 6-foot-1, 265-pound defensive lineman was coming off an All-Sun Belt selection under Curt Cignett at JMU in 2023 after having a career-high 53 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two pass breakups.
Kamara’s season sack total ranks tied for No. 5 on the IU single-season charts with retired NFL star Adewale Ogunleye (10.0; 1997). He posted the first double-digit sacks in a season by a Hoosier since Jammie Kirlew in 2008 (10.5) per The Daily Hoosiers
