Curt Cignetti has made some solid strides in adding talent to Indiana's 2027 recruiting class this week. Indiana has landed commitments from 4-star OT Mason McDermott, 3-star WR Branden Sharpe, 3-star S Rico Jackson, and 3-star WR Jordan Carrasquillo over the last few days. Now, Indiana's 2027 class features seven players and is ranked as the No. 42 class in the country by 247Sports.
It's some strong momentum, but Cignetti and company are still on the prowl for talented playmakers to add to the mix. When looking around the recruiting developments of other Big Ten teams, it's imperative that Cignetti keeps his foot on the gas. One program in particular is making some serious moves.
Michigan’s recruiting hot streak has Indiana in trouble
Kyle Whittingham and the Michigan Wolverines are having a sensational May. It's taken some time for Whittingham to get rolling in Ann Arbor, but now he is on a serious heater.
Michigan has landed a total of nine commitments over the last three weeks. Michigan's latest commitment comes in the form of 4-star S Tavares Harrington, who is ranked as the No. 10 overall player in the state of Illinois and the No. 25 cornerback in the country according to 247Sports. His addition to Michigan's 2027 recruiting class gives Whittingham another blue chip recruit capable of making an immediate impact.

Michigan's 2027 recruiting class now features 14 players, which is double the amount of Indiana's at this moment in time. Of those 14 Michigan commits, 10 are blue-chippers. Harrington is the sixth Michigan commit that ranks in the top 125 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. The class is headlined by 4-starOT Jakari Lipsey, who is ranked as the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan and No. 9 offensive tackle in the country.
Now, Michigan boasts a 2027 recruiting class that is ranked No. 11 in the country by 247Sports. More talent could be on the way as well, as Whittingham and his staff still have their eyes on several top recruits including 5-star CB Joshua Dobson and WR Dakota Guerrant.
Michigan has more stability under Kyle Whittingham
After a tumultuous offseason, Whittingham brings more stability to the Wolverine program. Over the course of his 20 seasons in Salt Lake City, he turned Utah into one of the most consistent winners in all of college football. With the Utes, Whittingham posted an overall record of 177-88 (.668) and went 109-70 (.601) in conference play. His presence immediately brings much-needed head coaching experience and stability in Ann Arbor.
Coming off a historic National Championship, the Hoosiers are expected to be a CFP team again this season. The hype in Ann Arbor continues to rise, and the Wolverines are expected to compete for a CFP spot as well. Former5-star QB Bryce Underwood is returning for his sophomore season, and is likely to take a big step forward after an up-and-down freshman campaign.
The Hoosiers and Wolverines didn't meet this past season, but their last meeting resulted in an Indiana victory. Back on November 9, 2024, the Hoosiers took down the Wolverines by a score of 20-15 in Bloomington. The two teams will meet in a highly-anticipated matchup in Ann Arbor on October 24. It should be one of the premier games of the Big Ten season.
