Darian DeVries and executive director of basketball Ryan Carr have had a solid offseason so far. Indiana has brought in six new players through the transfer portal, and all are expected to be significant contributors next season. The group is currently ranked as the No. 1 portal class in the country according to On3.

The moves are much needed, as not only did DeVries' first season in Bloomington end in disappointment, but rising sophomore Trent Sisley is the lone returner from last year's team. The Hoosiers look much-improved, but other teams in the Big Ten has improved as well.

The Michigan Wolverines are coming off a national title in Year 2 of the Dusty May era. While they are losing some signficant contributors from their title team, May has restocked his roster with plenty of talent. His latest portal addition spells bad news for DeVries and the Hoosiers.

Michigan adds C Moustapha Thiam through the transfer portal

On Friday, Michigan landed a commitment from Cincinnati transfer Moustapha Thiam, who was one of the most coveted big men on the market. Thiam owns a 7'2" 250-pound frame, and averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game as a sophomore. He spent the previous season at UCF, and comes to Ann Arbor with two years of eligibility remaining.

At the time of his commitment to May and the Wolverines, Thiam was ranked as the No. 13 overall player and the No. 3 center in the portal via On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Michigan star center Aday Mara is now gone, so Thiam figures to take on a leading role in Michigan's frontcourt in his place. Mara was a key piece of Michigan's National Championship-winning season, as he averaged 12.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game this past season.

Indiana's frontcourt is vastly improved with the additions of former SMU C Samet Yigitoglu and former Alabama PF Aiden Sherrell. Together, Yigitoglu and Sherrell have the potential to be one of the best frontcourt combos in the Big Ten. But Thiam's move from Cincinnati to Michigan presents an even tougher for Indiana when facing off against the Wolverines next season.
