Lamar Wilkerson is on an absolute tear. The senior guard has been IU's best player down the stretch of the 2025-26 season, and his efforts are a big reason why the Hoosiers are still hanging on to hopes of an NCAA Tournament birth.
Oddsmakers have high expectations for the Hoosiers in crucial matchup against Minnesota
On the season, Wilkerson has led the Hoosiers in scoring in 17 of their 29 games, and is averaging a team-high 21.3 points per game. His game has reached another level down the stretch, as he's paced the Hoosiers in scoring in each of the last seven games and is averaging a strong 26.7 points per game over that span.
With two more regular season games on the docket before the Big Ten Tournament, Wilkerson is closing in on an impressive all-time Indiana basketball record.
Lamar Wilkerson inches closer to IU's single season three-point record
Wilkerson can score in a variety of ways, and he's been especially effective from beyond the arc. On the season, the transfer from Sam Houston State is shooting a team-high 37.9% from deep, and is knocking down 3.3 three-pointers per game.
He's totaled 97 made three-pointers on the season, which puts him 10 behind Steve Alford for the Indiana all-time program record for made three's in a single season. Alford knocked down 107 three's during the 1986-87 season, and Wilkerson is now within striking distance.
Wilkerson is letting it fly from distance lately, as he attempted 25 three-pointers last week against Northwestern and Michigan State. He knocked down four against the Wildcats and five against the Spartans. If he continues with that kind of volume, it wouldn't be surprising to see him tie or break Alford's record this week.
Wilkerson's efforts are a big reason why the Hoosiers made the cut in Joe Lunardi's latest bracket projection as the final team in the "Last Four In" category. IU faces a pair of crucial games this week against Minnesota and Ohio State, and both are winnable. Going 2-0 would do wonders for their NCAA Tournament hopes. In the previous meeting between the Golden Gophers and Hoosiers this season, Wilkerson totaled 15 points and knocked down a pair of three-pointers in Indiana's 73-64 loss.
Seeing Wilkerson play during March Madness would be a treat for college basketball fans everywhere, and Hoosier fans are itching to see it happen.
