Over the offseason, former Indiana Hoosier slugger Kyle Schwarber signed a 5-year, $150 million deal to stay with the Philadelphia Phillies. Schwarber has emerged as one of the most feared power hitters in all of baseball, and is coming off a season in which he blasted a National League-high 56 home runs.
This transfer running back for Indiana has all the makings of a breakout star
With the new 2026 season underway, Schwarber wasted no time picking up right where he left off last season.
Kyle Schwarber's Opening Day home run sets the tone for a potentially record-breaking season
In his first at-bat of the new season, Schwarber sent a 1-2 curveball from Texas pitcher Nathan Eovaldi into the left field seats at Citizens Bank Park. The 2-run homer came on just the 5th pitch of the game for Eovaldi, and gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. Philadelphia went on to win the game by a score of 5-3.

With his Opening Day blast, Schwarber now has 341 home runs to his name in his big league career. It's not crazy to say that he could push for the 400 home run club this season. After blasting 56 home runs a season ago, Schwarber now needs 59 long balls to join the exclusive club of MLB sluggers.
A total of 59 players have reached 400 home runs in their careers, with Mike Trout being the most recent addition last season.
Schwarber has seen plenty of home run success in his career, and has blasted 45+ homers in three of his four seasons in Philadelphia. The lone exception came in 2024 when he collected 38 homers. In four seasons with the Phillies, he has racked up 188 of his 341 career home runs.
Expectations for Schwarber are high again this season, as the championship window for the Phillies may not be open for much longer. With his new $150 million deal, it's clear the Phillies want him to be a key part of their lineup moving forward.
