Participating in his third-career Home Run Derby, Kyle Schwarber has now suffered multiple gut-wrenching defeats.
Back in 2018, Schwarber blasted 55 home runs over three stages of the competition. He made it all the way to the final round before losing to his now-teammate Bryce Harper by a single home run. In a dramatic finish, Harper bested Schwarber 19-18 in the final round.
Unfortunately, Schwarber suffered another agonizing derby defeat on Monday night in Philadelphia.
Jordan Walker orchestrates dramatic comeback to defeat Kyle Schwarber in the 2026 Home Run Derby
In a new format, Schwarber advanced to the second round after hitting 10 home runs on 20 swings in the opening round. He then defeated Boston's Willson Contreras in the second round by a home run total of 9-8 on 15 swings apiece. Schwarber then met up with St. Louis' Jordan Walker in the final round, and had the entire Citizens Bank Park crowd behind him.

Schwarber's chances were looking good after he blasted 11 home runs on 15 swings to put the pressure on Walker. The St. Louis slugger started slow in the final round, but then orchestrated one of the most dramatic comebacks in Home Run Derby history.
With 8 home runs through 14 swings, Walker needed to hit 3 consecutive home runs to tie Schwarber's mark of 11, and 4 home runs on 4 swings to win it all. Well, that's exactly what he did.

Walker sent 4 straight homers over the left field wall to claim the 2026 Home Run Derby crown. All Schwarber could do was watch, and the home crowd in Philadelphia ultimately went home defeated.
Kyle Schwarber pushing for multiple career milestones in 2026
While suffering that kind of defeat in front of his home crowd has to sting, Schwarber still has plenty to look forward to throughout the rest of the season. He is appearing in his third-career All-Star Game on Monday night, and will be beatting leadoff as the National League's designated hitter.
Schwarber's Phillies currently own a record of 54-43 and currently own the second wild card spot in the National League. They are just 2.0 games out of the lead in the NL East division, and are among the World Series favorites at the All-Star break.
Along with looking to claim his second-career World Series ring, Schwarber is pushing for multiple key career milestones in the second half of the season. He currently has 372 career homers to his name, which means he is just 28 home runs away from joining MLB's prestigious 400 home run club. Only 57 players in MLB history have hit 400+ home runs, so Schwarber would be in rarified air.
The former Hoosier currently leads all of baseball with 32 long balls on the season, and with the way he is rolling, reaching the 60-homer mark as well as the 400-homer mark for his career are both well within reach this season.
