It was a forgettable season for the Indiana baseball program, but a Hoosier alum continues to put up historic numbers in Major League Baseball.

Kyle Schwarber signed a 5 year, $150 million contract with the Phillies over the offseason, and the early returns on that contract make him worth every single penny. Schwarber is putting up historic numbers this season, and his eye-popping home run barrage over the weekend has the former Hoosier in rarified air.

Kyle Schwarber continues historic season with four home run weekend

In Philadelphia's weekend series against the New York Mets, Schwarber put on an absolute show. The Phillies slugger blasted four home runs over the weekend, which included a three home run performance on Saturday. In total, Schwarber went 5-for-8 with 4 home runs, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored over Saturday and Sunday's games.

In Saturday's three-homer game, Schwarber blasted two home runs in the 3rd inning alone, which went a combined 913 feet. He became just the 4th player in Phillies history to blast two home runs in the same inning.

His third homer of the night was the shortest, as it traveled 359 feet and barely stayed fair inside the right field foul pole.

But Schwarber wasn't done there. The following day, the Middletown, OH native blasted a three-run homer in the 2nd inning of Sunday's matchup. It traveled 418 feet.

Kyle Schwarber making push for MLB's 400 home run club

With his four homer weekend, Schwarber now leads all of baseball with 29 home runs on the season. After racking up a career-high 56 long balls last season, Schwarber is on pace to post an even higher home run total in 2026.

Over the course of his 12-year MLB career, Schwarber now has an impressive 369 home runs to his name. That puts him just 31 home runs away from joining MLB's 400 home run club. Only 59 players are in that exclusive fraternity, and the most recent addition to the club was Mike Trout last season. With the way Schwarber is rolling, seeing him reach the 400-homer mark this season seems well within the realm of possibility.

In fact, if he continues on his current pace, Schwarber would reach that mark by multiple home runs. At his current pace with 29 home runs through 74 games, Schwarber would his 63 homers on the season and end the campaign with 403 home runs under his belt. It would be close, but it's certainly possible.

In addition to leading all of baseball with 29 home runs, Schwarber also leads the sport in slugging percentage (.603), and total bases (170). He finished 2nd in National League MVP voting last year to Shohei Ohtani, but at this point time, Schwarber could be considered the frontrunner for the award.

In a season where the IU baseball program finished with an overall record of 23-31 and a lowly 9-21 mark in Big Ten play, seeing a former Hoosier dominate MLB pitching is a welcome sight for Hoosier baseball fans.
