The Indiana Hoosiers are dealing with some key injuries heading into Saturday's Week 5 matchup at Rutgers. Some injuries were already known, but more have popped up throughout the week. The latest Big Ten availability report features a surprise name that gives a major position group some real concerns.

Indiana's RB group dealing with several injuries in Week 5

It's already been known that redshirt sophomore running back Khobie Martin will be out for Week 5. Martin suffered a broken forearm early on in Week 1 against North Texas, and hasn't been able to return to the field since. While he is officially ruled out for the Rutgers game, the hope is that he can return at some point in the middle of the season.

Turbo Richard went down with a leg injury in Week 4 against Northwestern. The injury occurred in the 2nd quarter, and was later revealed to be a high ankle sprain. Richard missed the rest of the game after running for 68 yards on 9 carries before the injury. The good news is that Richard could return this week, and is even listed as probable on the latest availability report.

Lee Beebe Jr. stepped up in a major way with Richard sidelined, as the fifth-year senior ran for a whopping 203 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Simply put, the Hoosiers don't win that game without Beebe's impressive performance. However, Beebe has now surprisingly made an appearance on Indiana's Week 5 availability report. He is listed as questionable, which is a major concern for IU football fans.

To make matters even worse, Sean Cuono is also on the availability report with a designation of questionable. That means Indiana's top four running backs are dealing with some sort of injury designation heading into Week 5 against Rutgers. Needless to say, that is not ideal.

Indiana's RB depth will be heavily tested against Rutgers

Entering the 2026 season, Indiana's RB depth was a major strength of the roster. Richard was one of IU's biggest additions through the transfer portal after running for 749 yards and 9 touchdowns at Boston College last season. He's been tremendous with the Hoosiers so far, racking up 383 yards and 7.7 yards per carry to go along with 4 touchdowns.

Martin returned after a sensational redshirt freshman campaign in 2025-26. Both Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black ran for 1,000+ yards, but Martin managed to carve out a steady role and collect 505 yards and 6 scores on the ground. He entered the new season on breakout watch, but now that mission is on hold given his injury status.

Beebe was also impressive in limited action last season, as he ran for 209 yards and 7.7 yards per rush before suffering a season-ending injury in Week 3.

With Richard, Martin, and Beebe in the mix, the Hoosiers figured to have a three-headed monster in the backfield this season. But given their respective injury designations, Indiana's RB depth will be seriously tested on the road this Saturday.
