Indiana men's basketball hired West Virginia's Darian DeVries as the new head coach earlier announced Tuesday, for six years at nearly $5 million per season reported by Matt Norlander of CBS Sports.
According to ESPN's Jeff Borzello, the Hoosiers are expected to pay a buyout of roughly $6.15 million which is believed to be a record payout for Indiana in a coaching hire in the schools history.
Per the terms of DeVries’ contract, obtained by USA Today Sports, should he leave for another job during the contract period — DeVries would make 37.5% of remaining guaranteed income.
In his only year on the job, DeVries led the Mountaineers to a 19-13 (10-10) record with an eighth-place finish in the Big 12 Conference. WVU overachieved in 2024-25 as they finished 9-23 the previous year under head coach Bob Huggins.
