Hoosiers senior shooting guard Shay Ciezki earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Monday, announced by the conference
The 5-foot-7 Ciezki averaged 28.5 points while shooting 52.6% from the field and 56.3% from three point range to begin the season. Shay also added 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game to her stat line.
Ciezki was ranked the No. 56 player in the 2022 recruiting class out of St. Mary’s High School, according to ESPN and started her career at Penn State before transferring to Indiana after her sophomore season.
Ciezki and Indiana Hoosiers head coach Teri Moren are off to a hot start sitting at 2-0. Ciezki dropped 35 points against University of Illinois-Chicago, while winning 72-56 and 22 points against Lipscomb in their first win if the season in a 80-46 blowout.
Shay Ciezki and UCLA transfer, sophomore forward Zania Socka-Nguemen were the Hoosiers’ scorers to average more than 10 points per game through the first two games. Ciezki as mentioned averaged 28.5 points and Socka-Nguemen averaged 19 points per game. Redshirt sophomore guard Lenée Beaumont and freshman guard Nevaeh Caffey each average 7 points per game.
The Indiana Hoosiers women's basketball team (2-0) return to action on tonight at home against Marshall. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m E.T.
The Marshall Thundering Herd are also 2-0 on the season with a pair of dominant wins over Buffalo and Northern Kentucky.
