Indiana senior safety Bryson Bonds will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after suffering a knee injury on Saturday in the week one, 27-14 win over Old Dominion coach Curt Cignetti confirmed Monday.

Bonds has been at Indiana since 2020 since he signed with Tom Allen in 2019. This was his final year of eligibility, but he should be eligible for a medical hardship waiver if he wants to return in 2026.

The Fort Worth, Texas, native suffered the injury on a kickoff late in the second quarter of the season opener.

Bonds, a sixth-year senior has played in 48 career games and has 43 career tackles with the Hoosiers. The majority of Bonds play has come on special teams, and he is a key contributor in that role.

The injury ends what was set to be Bonds’ final year of eligibility, though he could apply for a medical hardship waiver to return in 2026 and it will likely get granted because he only played in one quarter for the 2025 season.

Moore, who led Indiana with seven tackles and added an interception against Old Dominion could be playing in his last game for Indiana next weekend.

The 6-foot and 202-pound Bonds was supposed to to be a key depth piece at safety for the Hoosiers this season, potentially filling in as a starter if Louis Moore is left ineligible for the season in connection with his ongoing lawsuit against the NCAA.

Including Moore, Indiana has seven scholarship safeties. Three of them have yet to take a snap in college — redshirt freshman Jah Jah Boyd, freshman Seaonta Stewart Jr. and freshman Garrett Reese.

The other main safety on the roster is true freshman Byron Baldwin Jr who is listed day- to-day. Freshman safety Byron Baldwin Jr. missed the season opener with an undisclosed injury.

The Hoosiers look to improve to 2-0 at noon Saturday against Kennesaw State University at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
