True freshman safety Byron Baldwin has been listed as “out” on the Big Ten availability report published before the kick-off ahead of today's game.

Baldwin is the only player with an “out” or “questionable” for Indiana on week one's depth chart and injury report.

Sixth-year senior Louis Moore will start, behind him will be Devan Boykin at free safety, at strong safet will be Amare Ferrell. Redshirt senior Bryson Bonds and redshirt freshman Jah Jah Boyd will also play behind Moore and Ferrell.

Indiana's secondary at the safety position is already thin as sixth-year safety Louis Moore, who's suing the NCAA for eligibility this season could only play two games this season. Moore is currently has a two-week temporary restraining order that grants him eligibility for Indiana's first two games, but his future beyond then is still uncertain and will be revisted on September 10th.

All-American cornerback D'Angelo Ponds thinks Baldwin Jr has the chance to be special.

“He brings a lot of energy,” Ponds said. “He's a young guy, he's wanting to learn. He reminds me of myself kind of, he asks questions about everything, and he wants to learn. I see he's got a lot of potential in himself. I definitely see a little bit of myself in him.”

Baldwin played high school football at Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the No. 188 overall prospect and No. 17 safety in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking for the class of 2025.

Baldwin totaled 168 tackles, 7 pass breakups, 4 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles in two seasons as a starter.

The Hoosiers and Monarchs will kick off at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Merchands Bank Field at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.
