When it comes to the chase for 5-star WR Monshun Sales, one team that poses a major threat to the Indiana Hoosiers is the Texas Longhorns. Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns have gained serious ground in Sales' recruitment over the last month, and with Sales' decision day now just three days away, fans of the Hoosiers and Longhorns are waiting with bated breath.
Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh are on the verge of something special in 2026
Throwing an interesting wrinkle into Sales' decision-making process is the fact that Texas has already secured a commitment from 5-star WR Easton Royal, who is ranked as the No. 1 WR and No. 6 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class. Could Royal's presence in Texas' recruiting class have an impact on Sales' decision? One recruiting expert certainly thinks so.
Recruiting expert doubts Texas' ability to get both Easton Royal and Monshun Sales
In an interview with Rivals' Josh Newberg, Texas recruiting insider Justin Wells stated that while the Longhorns are dreaming of landing both Royal and Sales, it would be tough to see in reality. Wells reported that the two 5-star wideouts are going through their own processes and making decisions based on what is best for them.
"They're not going to the same school," Well said. "I think they're both making decisions based off both of their needs and what their factors are. I have a really hard time seeing both of those kids in the same class."

But he doesn't think these two 5-star WR's will be playing for the same team 👀

That is certainly good news for Indiana. Curt Cignetti is looking to secure the first-ever 5-star high school recruit in Indiana program history, and it seems that Royal's pledge to Texas is aiding in that effort. However, if Royal decides to flip away from Texas, this whole situation would be flipped on its head.
An Easton Royal flip would spell bad news for Indiana's pursuit of Monshun Sales
Over the last several months, speculation of a potential Royal flip away from the Longhorns has been making the rounds. Most notably, Royal's hometown LSU Tigers have been hot on his trail since Lane Kiffin took over in Baton Rouge.
Royal plays for Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, and Kiffin has been giving it his all looking to flip Royal from Texas to LSU. If that happens, Texas would become an even bigger threat to Cignetti and the Hoosiers in their pursuit of Sales. The Longhorns are already in the mix, but Royal potentially leaving would open the door for Sales to swoop in.
Kiffin and the Tigers are also in contention to land Sales, but at this point in time LSU has an outside shot to secure the Lawrence North product. Along with Indiana, Texas, and LSU, other teams among his finalists are Ohio State and Alabama.
Sales is ranked as the No. 2 WR and No. 7 overall player in the country in the updated Rivals300 rankings. His looming commitment is sure to send shockwaves through the college football world no matter where he decides to play.
