The calendar has flipped to November, meaning that the world of Indiana sports is heating up in a major way. It's been a busy week for the Hoosier athletic programs in season, and a busy weekend awaits. With plenty of Hoosier news worth monitoring, let's recap some of the biggest IU sports stories from this week to prepare you for this weekend's action.

Indiana basketball off to 2-0 start with two lopsided wins

The Hoosier men's basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after starting the season earlier this week. Indiana took down Eastern Illinois 91-57 on Monday night, and then defeated Bellarmine 92-69 on Thursday. Markus Burton led the way with 19 points in the opener, while Darren Harris paced the Hoosiers with 23 poitns on 6-of-11 shooting and a 5-for-10 mark from behind the arc.

After a disappointing season last year, Darian DeVries is looking to get the Cream and Crimson back to the NCAA Tournament in 2026-27. Indiana's next game is slated for Monday, Nov. 9 against Syracuse at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. That matchup will be a better litmus test for where the Hoosiers stand early on in the new campaign.

The Indiana men's soccer team secured the Big Ten regular season championship with a huge win over Michigan State on Wednesday night in Bloomington. The 4th-ranked Hoosier defeated the 9th-ranked Spartans 3-2, and moved to 14-1-3 on the season with a strong 7-1-2 record in Big Ten play. The IU soccer program has now won a total of 20 Big Ten regular season titles, which is 14 more than any other program. The Big Ten tournament is up next, with the No. 1-seeded Hoosiers taking on the winner of No. 4 Michigan State and No. 5 Maryland on Wednesday.

Women's basketball primed for second outing

The Indiana women's basketball also started its 2026-27 season this week. The Hoosiers took down Florida Gulf Coast 79-50 in the season opener on Tuesday, with Zania Socka-Nguemen leading the way with 13 points. Indiana was great in regards to perimeter defense, as they held FGCU to a measly 3-for-26 mark (12%) from three-point range. Looking to keep the early-season momentum going, the Hoosiers are set for their second game of the season on Friday night against Southern Illinois at Assembly Hall.

Football healing up during bye week

After playing nine games in nine weeks to start the season, the Indiana football team gets a much-needed bye week this weekend. The Hoosiers have had several close calls in recent weeks, and enter the bye with an 8-1 record. The first College Football Playoff rankings were released earlier this week, and the Hoosiers came in at No. 4. Josh Hoover is dealing with an injury, and after being benched at halftime of the Minnesota game, it will be interesting to see if Curt Cignetti goes to Hoover or backup Grant Wilson on November 14 against USC.
