DeVries was considered a top candidate to land the position as the head coach of his hometown Iowa Hawkeyes but as they say "money talks" and reports are that DeVries was offered a longer contract number and more more from Indiana Univ of Iowa.
West Virginia declined an invitation to play in The Crown a new postseason tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, because the players had no interest in participating in it, they also declined an offer to play in the NIT.
At Indiana, DeVries will replace outgoing head coach Mike Woodson as he takes the helm of the Hoosiers’ program.
Woodson’s four year tenure at Indiana included a 77-49 record, two NCAA tournament appearances with a victory in the 2023 tournament over Kent State but IU missed a bid to the tourney the last two seasons.
"We went into this coaching search with some very specific things we were looking for in our next head coach, and Darian emerged as someone who, on paper, met and often exceeded our criteria," Indiana athletic director Scott Dolson said in a statement. "Once we had a chance to talk to him, we knew we had the right person. Darian has a plan for building a championship culture that can compete at the highest level on a year-in, year-out basis.
