The Indiana Hoosiers were blown out on Tuesday night by the No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball in lackluster performance by IU. The Badgers won 76-64 in front of the Kohl Center crowd at home in Madison (Wisconsin).
Indiana trailed Wisconsin early in the first half, 26 to 4 and took two timeouts in the opening 6 minutes off the ball game and the Hoosiers could never truly recover. Indiana was an abysmal 2 of 11 from the field, 0 of 5 on 3-point range, with zero assists, minus-6 in rebounds and minus-2 in turnovers during that stretch, were it seemed as IU either gave up or mentally checked out of the ball game.
Mike Woodson's team did battle back and show some heart, cutting Wisconsin's lead to 40-28 entering halftime. The Badgers clearly were the better team on the floor as they jumped out early on the Hoosiers in the second half lead by Nolan Winter and Max Klesmit.
Max Klesmit was second in scoring for the Badgers with13 points, six assists, three steals, a rebound and a block. Nolan Winter produced 12 points, going five-of-seven shooting, plus he helped Wisconsin hold Indiana star center Oumar Ballo to just four points and six rebounds in one of his worst performances of the season. John Tonje led the Badgers with 15 points.
Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako led the Hoosiers’ scoring with 15 points. The only other Hoosiers that finished in double digits were Myles Rice with 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and Luke Goode with 11 points and 5 boards. Trey Galloway and Bryson Tucker each added 9 points.
Indiana men’s basketball has lost 21 straight games at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Indiana Hoosiers dropped to 1-6 in their last seven games with an overall record of 14-9 (5-7 Big Ten), the Wisconsin Badgers move on to 18-5 and (8-4 in Big Ten).
Indiana will return home to take on No. 24 Michigan at 1 p.m. ET, Saturday at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington in what feels like a must win game for Mike Woodson and Indiana men's basketball.
