Indiana head coach Darian DeVries is doing everything he can to fill out a roster that was completely empty by the time he was two weeks into working the position. Slowly but surely, every Indiana player on the roster last year made their way to the transfer portal, leaving DeVries with one Indiana commit and his son planning to transfer to the Hoosiers for his final season.
Even though it has been a rough road trying to get transfers to commit to Indiana, DeVries has been able to land a few and is slowly building his roster. Indiana has players they are targeting, and now it comes down to whether or not DeVries can seal the deal.
One of those targets is 4-star transfer shooting guard Lamar Wilkerson, as ranked by 247Sports.
Lamar Wilkerson has now become one of Indiana's top targets in the transfer portal
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Ashdown, Arkansas, entered the transfer portal after playing three seasons at Sam Houston, averaging 13.9 points in his career. Wilkerson had his best season yet in 2024-2025 when he averaged 20.5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. The most impressive stat of his season was that he was shooting 44.5% from deep range, making him an official sharp-shooter from beyond the 3-point arc.
Wilkerson actually played against Indiana this past season when the two teams met in non-conference play on December 3, 2024, when Indiana took down the Bearkats 97-71. however, Indiana fans should remember Wilkerson well as he led the Bearkats in scoring that night with 18 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
The sharpshooter was beaten in his final 10 games of the season, scoring over 20 points in eight of his final 10 games of the season. Wilkerson also didn't have a single game where he didn't score in double digits, making him Sam Houston's leading scorer.
Adding such an amazing shooter like Wilkerson to Indiana's roster would be huge for DeVries, taking pressure off of Tucker DeVries, who will be coming off of a shoulder injury from this past season. Indiana seriously struggled from 3-point range last season, so Wilkerson could come and change that entire narrative. Although, he would have to adjust to doing it in a power conference.
Stay tuned for updates on Wilkerson's choice of where to go out of the transfer portal.
