Darian DeVries has been hot on the recruiting trail, but there is one portal candidate that he desperately wants to land, and so does Hoosier Nation. With still just three players on the roster and one coming in from high school next season, DeVries needs some players to start committing soon.
One player that Indiana fans are anxiously awaiting to hear about is Sam Houston, 4-star transfer guard Lamar Wilkerson, who has apparently narrowed his choices down to two schools, one of them being Indiana.
Wilkerson was down to four schools Auburn, Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Indiana. DeVries has been battling against three top-tier SEC programs to try and land Wilkerson, and he was able to beat two of them in the competition.
Lamar Wilkerson is down to Kentucky and Indiana and a decision is expected soon
After taking visits to both Bloomington and Lexington, Wilkerson has decided that Kentucky and Indiana are the two schools he is trying to decide between. The 4-star guard, according to 247Sports, was supposed to take visits to Auburn and Ole Miss but decided to cancel them after the visits to his front-runners.
With just one season of eligibility left, Wilkerson has been a highly sought-after player in the transfer portal, averaging 20. 5 points per game, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists this past season. He shot an amazing 47.7% from the floor and an even better 44.5% from three-point range.
Some on social media are speculating that because Wilkerson has begun to follow Kentucky basketball players on X (formally known as Twitter), he is leaning toward the Wildcats. It seemed that both visits to Lexington and Bloomington were great, but now it is in the hands of Wilkerson.
It is expected that Wilkerson will make his decision later this week. Adding Wilkerson would be huge for Indiana as DeVries tries to continue to build his roster from just four players right now.
