This past weekend brought plenty of intriguing storylines and developments in the world of Indiana Hoosier athletics. Before another action-packed week gets started, let's recap some of the biggest headlines from the weekend in Bloomington.
Indiana Football survives upset scare vs Northwestern in Big Ten opener
The Indiana Hoosiers opened their title-defending season with easy wins over North Texas, Howard, and Western Kentucky. Week 4 brought an uptick in competition with a matchup against Northwestern on Friday night in the Big Ten opener. The Wildcats gave the Hoosiers all they could handle, battling hard all game long and giving Indiana plenty of resistance. The Hoosiers were able to dig deep when it mattered most, and walked away with a 29-23 victory to move to 4-0. It wasn't pretty, but they got the job done.
Up next on the schedule is Indiana's first road game of the season in Week 5. The Hoosiers will travel to Piscataway to face the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this Saturday night. Rutgers is 1-3 this season, and kick-off is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
Men's basketball sets Cream and Crimson scrimmage for Oct. 2
Don't look now, but the start of the 2026-27 college basketball season is right around the corner. Hoosier basketball fans are hungrier than ever for a March Madness run, and Darian DeVries is looking to deliver in Year 2 of his tenure in Bloomington. With the new season quickly approaching, Indiana has announced that the Cream and Crimson scrimmage will take place on Oct. 2. The intrasquad scrimmage will take place at Assembly Hall at 6 p.m. ET and is open to the public. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. ET, and an autograph session will be held once the action on the hardwood concludes.
Week 5 Big Ten Power Rankings: Iowa, Wisconsin rise after stunning road upsets
The Hoosiers have already played one exhibition game in Bloomington this season. Back in July, the Hoosiers defeated Canada's Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf 98-64 in an exhibition game prior to the FISU America Games in Peru. Indiana went 4-0 and brought home the gold medal, with Alabama transfer power forward Aiden Sherrell earning Tournament MVP honors by averaging 14.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 blocked shots per game. Sherrell figures to be one of Indiana's top performers this season.
Men's soccer continues strong season with victory over Penn State
The Indiana men's soccer team headed into the weekend ranked as the No. 2 team in the country. The Hoosiers stayed undefeated by taking down Penn State by a score of 2-1 on Friday afternoon in Bloomington. Indiana is now 8-0-2 on the season. Next on the schedule is a matchup against Maryland this Friday at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
Volleyball increases winning streak to 7
The Indiana women's volleyball team improved to 9-2 on Saturday by taking down Maryland in straight sets. It was the seventh consecutive win for the Hoosiers. Indiana is now 2-0 in conference play and 4-0 at home this season. The Cream and Crimson are back in action this Thursday at Wisconsin.
