Curt Cignetti and his Hoosiers football staff have been grinding away and putting in tons of work towards beating Notre Dame in South Bend on Friday night and equal the amount of work in the transfter portal as they land another recruit.
former NIU cornerback Amariyun Knighten, announced his commitment to the program on Twitter:
Knighten had three tackles in NIU’s historic victory over the Notre Dame earlier this season in South Bend, along with his first career interception in the fourth quarter. He picked off Notre Dame senior quarterback Riley Leonard with under six minutes to go, returning the interception 33 yards to give NIU the ball at the fifty yard-line to set up the Huskies’ game-winning drive.
According to Pro Football Focus, Knighten has played 760 defensive snaps in 25 career games (14 starts at cornerback. The 6-foot-0 and 174 pound DB, played two seasons at NIU with a total of 34 tackles, 20 starts, 3 pass breakups and 4 interceptions.
Knighten has two years of eligibility remaining. As a transfer prospect he was also being recruited by Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Utah, Wisconsin, and others per 247 Sports
Knighten will look top replace Indiana seniors D’Angelo Ponds and Jamier Johnson, and top backup, Amare Ferrell.
