Former Maryland running back Roman Hemby is transferring to the Indiana Hoosiers football program according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The 6-foot, 205-pound junior entered the transfer portal last week and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Hemby led the Terrapins in 2024 in carries (134), rushing yards (607) and touchdown runs (six). He also caught 40 passes for 273 yards and receiving touchdown.
In four seasons at Maryland, Hemby played in 42 games totaling 2,347 yards on the ground with 22 touchdowns. The former three- star running back also added 112 passes catches for 921 passing yards and five touchdowns. Hemby is eighth all-time in Maryland school history with 22 career rush TD's, 12th on the career rushing yards list, and he’s tied for fourth in total TD's (27).
His only 100-yard game in 2024 came against the Hoosiers on Sept. 28 when he rushed 10 times for 117 yards in Indiana's 42-28 win in Bloomington.
Indiana's top two leading rushers from the 2024 season, Justice Ellison and Ty Son Lawton, are both out of eligibility. Backup running back Elijah Green also entered the transfer portal before to the College Football Playoff.
Hemby played his high school football at in Bel Air, Maryland. There, he was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
