Indiana Hoosiers head coach Curt Cignetti was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year by the conference coaches and the media for the 2024 season.

Cignetti has won coach of the year honors at each of his previous stops — at IUP in 2012, Elon in 2017 and James Madison in 2023. He's just the third IU head coach to win Big Ten Coach of the Year award Tom Allen and Bill Mallory per Herald-Times

The Big Ten announced its postseason awards this week with 11 Hoosiers being named to the honorable mention team and 6 players being named to the All-Big Ten Teams.

Indiana made one of the biggest improvements in 2024, from a 3-9 season in 2023 under Allen to an 11-1 season and a College Football Playoff berth in Cignetti’s first season.

“Based on the expectations prior to the season by the media and pretty much everybody else across the country, what we ended up getting done on the field it was a historic year for Indiana football,” Cignetti told Big Ten Network on Tuesday.

The Hoosiers regular season ended on a high note with a 66-0 win over in-state rival Purdue. IU will likely play in round one of the College Football Playoff on Dec. 20 or 21. ESPN gives the Hoosiers a 98.9% chance to make the 12-team playoff.
