As a freshman, he appeared in 33 games for Indiana and averaged 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 21.6 minutes per game.
The 6-foot-2 guard from Centerville, Ohio was the Gatorade State Player of the Year and a former four-star recruit.
Cupps should be able to get medical hardship waiver for the 2024-25 season, meaning he should still have three years of eligibility remaining. Cupps only played in in four total games before being shut down with a knee injury in late November. He had four shot attempts and didn’t score all season. Cupps had knee surgery during the season but should be healthy at the start of the 2025-26 season next year.
Cupps left the door open to returning to Indiana in his announcement post. Players are allowed to enter the portal and return to their previous school. The transfer portal opens on Monday after the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Indiana recently named West Virginia's Darian DeVries as their new head coach early this evening. DeVries led West Virginia to a 19-13 overall record, finishing 10-10 in the Big 12 -- before the Mountaineers were snubbed on Selection Sunday.
DeVries spent 20 seasons on staff as an assistant at Creighton before becoming a head coach at Drake and WVU.
