After defeating North Texas 52-16 in Week 1, the Indiana Hoosiers are set for their Week 2 matchup against the Howard Bison on Saturday afternoon. It's a game the Hoosiers should dominate and make their way to 2-0 on the season.
3 Indiana Hoosiers with something to prove in Week 2 against Howard
While the Hoosiers aren't playing or when the game is in a commercial break, there are several other games on this week's schedule that IU fans should keep an eye on. For those fans looking for some good matchups that could have implications on Indiana later on this season, here are three to tune into.
Ohio State at Texas
Without a doubt, the biggest game on the Week 2 schedule pits Ohio State against Texas. The Buckeyes hosted the Longhorns last year in Columbus, and OSU prevailed 14-7. Now Ryan Day and company will make the trip out to Austin. This will be an early-season top-5 matchup, as Ohio State comes in as the top-ranked team in the country while Texas isn't far behind at No. 4.
Both teams have their sights set on a National Championship, and both Julian Sayin and Arch Manning are among the early-season favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. There is elite talent up and down both of these rosters, making for what should be must-watch television for all college football fans. Indiana will host Ohio State on October 17, so Hoosier fans can get an early look at the Buckeyes in this one. Kick-off for this highly-anticipated contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Oklahoma at Michigan
Michigan looked absolutely abysmal in Week 1 against Western Michigan, and ultimately should have lost. In the aftermath of that chaos, the Wolverines fell from No. 16 in the AP Poll to being completely unranked. Kyle Whittingham's team will have to get things turned around in a hurry, as the 11th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners are coming to Ann Arbor on Saturday.
Oklahoma has one of the top defenses in the country, and Brent Venables should have a strong game plan dialed up for Michigan QB Bryce Underwood. After such a poor performance in Week 1, it will be very intriguing to see what Michigan looks like against much better competition. Kick-off is scheduled for Noon ET on FOX. Indiana will head to The Big House later this season on October 24, which comes one week after hosting Ohio State.
Mississippi State at Minnesota
One of the most fascinating yet under-the-radar matchups in Week 2 features an SEC-Big Ten battle between Mississippi State and Minnesota. Jeff Lebby and the Bulldogs will head north to Minnesota to face the Golden Gophers in the type of matchup that has plenty of potential to deliver some fireworks. Lebby has Mississippi State trending in the right direction, and this will be a great opportunity to pickup a win against a solid Big Ten opponent.
PJ Fleck has led Minnesota to consistent success during his tenure, and is coming off back-to-back 8-win seasons. QB Drake Lindsey could be a star in the making, and the offensive line protecting him is among the most experienced in the country. Kick-off between the Bulldogs and Golden Gophers is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The Hoosiers will host Minnesota later this season on Halloween night.
