Before the transfer portal opened, after the Indiana women's basketball team fell to South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, head coach Teri Moren knew she would have holes to fill on her roster but hoped she wouldn't lose many players to the portal. Moren had been proud that she didn't lose a single player to the portal last year, but this year has been another story.
Indiana has lost quite a few players to the transfer portal, including leading scorer Yarden Garzon, which came as a shock to the entire Hoosier fanbase. Garzon had spent her entire career at Indiana it seemed she would finish it with the Hoosiers, but almost a week after the portal opened, Garzon announced she would be leaving.
What has shocked fans even more recently is that not only did Garzon leave Indiana, but she chose to go to a Big Ten rival. It came out today that Garzon would be transferring to Maryland, another team that was bested by South Carolina in the NCAA tournament. Maryland has landed some great transfers out of the portal, including Garzon.
Indiana fans, however, can't believe that Garzon not only transferred out of Indiana but to Maryland.
Yardon Garzon has committed to Maryland. Going to be very weird seeing her stay in the Big Ten. #iuwbb https://t.co/NAXjDYUnNq

Garzon will still be wearing red, just a different type of red in the Big Ten. Seeing her in a Maryland uniform is something Indiana fans sadly will have to get used to.
Yarden Garzon, Indianaโs all-time leader in 3-point shooting, will stay in conference with Maryland

Will be interesting to see how this plays out for #iuwbb (she wonโt return to Assembly Hall because IU hosted UMD this season) https://t.co/Z9R8EgFspJ
Indiana won't see Garzon back in Assembly Hall, but they will face the Terrapins next season, meaning they will have to face their former teammate in Garzon.
Garzon to Maryland? Makes zero sense #iuwbb

Maryland women's basketball is a program on the rise, and they made it further in the tournament than Indiana did. Garzon must have thought she would have more success with the Terrapins than she would with Indiana, and that must have been the reason for transferring there.
Losing Garzon really, really hurts. Especially to another team in conference. Will miss Shalosh A LOT. #iuwbb https://t.co/chMkO37sgV

It is never easy to see a player transfer, but to a conference rival, that hurts even more.
How i wish that was an april fools joke #iuwbb

Sadly, April Fools was a week ago, so this is real, and this is happening.
