Indiana sophomore guard Gabe Cupps underwent surgery and will be out indefinitely, according to Zach Osterman of the Indianapolis Star
The 6-foot-2 guard from Centerville, Ohio was Gatorade State Player of the Year and a former four-star recruit.
Cupps has appeared in just four games for Indiana this season total.
He played 14 minutes in IU's first two regular-season games, before sitting out three of the next five. Cupps played just 10 minutes in Indiana’s appearance in the Battle 4 Atlantis, six against Louisville and four against Providence.
Last season, Cupps played in 33 games and averaged 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 21.6 minutes per game.
With Indiana's guard depth being intact Cupps may transfer in the off-season or he could potentially still redshirt this season. Sophomore guards Myles Rice and Kanaan Carlyle are solid starters along with the back up veteran group of redshirt seniors Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal
We will see if Cupps plays this season for Indiana or comes back for a junior at IU or at another college in the 2025-26 season next year. If he does not play again in 2024-25 he could take a redshirt and have three years of eligibility remaining starting next season.
Here's to a speedy recovery for Mr. Gabe Cupps into the new year.
