Former Indiana assistant coach Kenya Hunter has been hired by Sean Miller and the Texas Longhorns men's basketball program according to Field of 68 insider Jeff Goodman’s X post Saturday.
Hunter previously spent five years as an assistant under Mike Woodson at Indiana, including three years as the associate head coach.
Hunter began his coaching career at Duquesne, his alma mater, then served as the Director of Basketball Operations at North Carolina State before heading to UConn for one lone season. Hunter played 103 games at Duquesne from 1992-96, serving as a team captain for three seasons straight.
Former Indiana head coach Archie Miller hired Hunter to work on his staff at Xavier from 2004-07 prior to stints at Georgetown and Nebraska.
While Hunter was on Indiana's staff, he helped develop three players NBA players in Trayce Jackson-Davis (Golden State Warriors), Jalen Hood-Schifino (Philadelphia 76ers) and Kel'El Ware (Miami Heat), who were all first round picks in the NBA Draft. He also recently coached Malik Reneau (Miami-FL) and Oumar Ballo who will be looking to be selected in this year's draft.
Earlier in this month, another former Indiana assistant in Yasir Rosemond was hired by Tigers head coach Matt McMahon's staff at LSU.
The remaining members of Mike Woodson's staff, including Brian Walsh, Calbert Cheaney and Jordan Hulls have not been hired or announced their next destinations in their coaching careers.
