After spending two seasons with Elon, Nick Dorn was one of 10 players that Darian DeVries brought in through the transfer portal for his first season in Bloomington. Dorn was a solid player over his time with the Phoenix, and he was coming off a sophomore campaign in which he averaged 15.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game while shooting 35.1% from beyond the arc.

During that season, Dorn was one of only six Division I players to average at least 15.0 points per game, make 70 three-pointers and 90 free throws while playing less than 1,000 minutes during the 2024-25 campaign. DeVries was hoping the 6'7" 225-pound guard would bring some of that efficiency to Bloomington.

However, Dorn struggled with consistency for the Hoosiers. He averaged 20.3 points per game over a four-game stretch to end the month of January, but he would average just 5.0 points per game over Indiana's final 10 games of the season. In total, Dorn ended his lone season with the Hoosiers averaging 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

After the season, Dorn was one of six Hoosiers to enter the transfer portal. Now, he has found his new college basketball home.

Nick Dorn commits to Miami (FL) via the transfer portal

On Friday, Sam Kayser reported that Dorn has committed to play for the Miami Hurricanes next season. He joins a Miami program coached by Jai Lucas, who put together a strong first season in Coral Gables by leading the Hurricanes to an overall record of 26-9 and a trip to Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

Dorn is the fifth player to join the Hurricanes through the portal. He joins Acaden Lewis from Villanova, Somto Cyril from Georgia, DeSean Goode from Robert Morris, and Quin Berger from Bucknell. Together, the class is ranked as the No. 5 portal class in the country by 247Sports.

It will be interesting to see how Dorn's senior season goes with the Hurricanes. He showed flashes of strong scoring and shooting prowess this past season, but the consistency just wasn't there. Lucas had a strong first season, and he figures to have a role in mind for his latest portal addition.

Dorn is the fourth former Hoosier to land a new team through the portal this offseason, and the first to go to a power conference team. Last month, Josh Harris committed to Florida Atlantic, Aleksa Ristic landed with Belmont, and Jason Drake went to Temple. Jasai Miles and Andrej Acimovic are still searching for new homes, while Tayton Conerway is vying for another year of eligibility.
