Jalen Brewster, a five-star defensive line prospect in the class of 2027, has announced his commitment date, that date coming on October 4th. This announcement comes after Texas native Jalen Brewster was on campus for Indiana’s dominant 63-10 win over Illinois.

According to the On3, Brewster holds the No. 8 overall spot nationally, is rated as the top defensive lineman, and sits at No. 3 among players from Texas. His final list of schools includes Oregon, Ohio State, Texas Tech, Indiana, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and LSU.

“I’ve been to really every school and I’ve seen everything I’ve needed to see. I think it’s time,” Brewster told Rivals.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings the 6-foot-5, 277-pound five-star defensive lineman is the No. 8 overall prospect in the country, the No. 1 defensive lineman nationally, and the third best prospect in Texas in the 2027 class.

Brewster had 16 tackles with seven tackles for a loss, four sacks, two passes defended, a fumble recovery and three QB hurries in five games last season, according to 247Sports in the 2024-25 season.

Brewster is the son of former NFL defensive lineman Robert Brewster, who the Dallas Cowboys selected in the 3rd round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

""Strong, explosive front-line defender with an impressive combination of size and athleticism. Displays startling redirecting suddenness on sophomore tape. Supports that functional juice in pads with terrific combine testing numbers (twice) in early 2025."

Brewster will visit Texas A&M this weekend during the Auburn matchup.

For Curt Cignetti and Indiana, a commitment from Brewster would be a huge statement nationally. It would strengthen the defense for years to come and it would be the Hoosiers first five-str commitment in the history of the football program. Brewster would boost football recruiting credibility, and energize the fan base for the future years to come.
