Indiana quarterbacks, Fernando and Alberto Mendoza have become the first set of brothers in 10 years to both throw touchdowns for the same team in college football.

Alberto, who orignally committed to Curt Cignetti while he was at James Madison and followed the coaching staff to Indiana. Fernando committed to Cal out of high school both are from Miami, attending Christopher Columbus High School.

"When I went to Cal, he went to JMU so I didn’t think our paths would cross,” Fernando said in the spring. “It’s been an incredible journey and an incredible privilege. Just really grateful to be able to play with him.""

Fernando Mendoza threw four touchdown passes, completing 18 of 25 passes for 245 yards in their 56-9, win over Kennesaw State.

His younger brother Alberto who is the backup quarterback threw a late 6-yard touchdown with 6:03 left in the game, the Mendoza brothers marked their names in college football history, becoming the first set of brothers to throw a touchdown in the same game since 2015 (Brandon and Austin Allen; Arkansas).

"As a competitor, for a split second I was like I want to score again. Then I realized my little brother was going in,” Mendoza said. "That was amazing to be here with him and have that partnership that we're working together.”

I feel like I have gained that and am getting better every single practice. [It’s come from] the likes of coaches [Mike] Shanahan, Chandler [Whitmer] and Alberto, they have all been helping me a ton, so I am really excited about my development,” Fernando said about how his brother, Alberto, has helped him in his transition during this off-season.

Mendoza needed to shake off a bit of rust against the ODU Monarchs and did just that on Saturday. Indiana and the Mendoza brothers will take on Indiana State on Friday night at home at Memorial Stadium.

Indiana will take on Illinois in a top 25 matchup in two weeks at home in what will be the biggest regular season home game in recent memory for the Hoosiers.
