After a successful tenure at Florida Atlantic, former Indiana student manager Dusty May has wasted no time finding success at the helm of the Michigan basketball program. May went 27-10 with a Sweet Sixteen appearance last season, and led the Wolverines to a 37-3 season that culminated in a National Championship this past season.
May and the Wolverines lose several key contributors from their title team heading into next season, but May has reinforced his roster with a strong incoming recruiting class and a plethora of impact transfers. He has Michigan well-positioned to compete for another title in 2026-27.
Elliot Cadeau returns to Michigan for senior season
Aiding Michigan's title hopes next season is the return of star guard Elliot Cadeau.
Cadeau played a major role in Michigan's National Championship season, and was named the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
He decided to test the NBA Draft waters, but over the weekend his agent announced that he would be withdrawing from the 2026 NBA Draft to return to the Wolverines. Cadeau's return gives Darian DeVries and the Indiana Hoosiers another challenge next season.
Michigan’s Elliot Cadeau is officially withdrawing from the 2026 NBA Draft and will return to school next season, per his agent Drew Gross.

An expected decision, but one that lays the foundation for the Wolverines to have another major run in 2026-27.
In the lone meeting between the Hoosiers and Wolverines this past season, Cadeau torched Indiana with an impressive well-rounded performance. The West Orange, NJ native totaled 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting and grabbed four rebounds while also dishing out an assist. He also shot 2-of-5 from three-point land and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. His efforts helped lead Michigan to a convincing 86-72 victory in Ann Arbor.
On the season, the 6'1" 180-pound guard averaged 10.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. After spending the first two years of his collegiate career at North Carolina, Cadeau is now averaging 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists through his three seasons of college basketball.
Darian DeVries and Indiana looking for NCAA Tournament birth
Watching May, an Indiana native and Hoosier alum, lead the Wolverines to a National Championship only puts salt in the wound for Indiana basketball fans. The Hoosiers have missed the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons and in eight of the last 10 years. After an 18-14 campaign during his first season in Bloomington, DeVries needs to put together a better campaign in 2026-27.
DeVries has landed an impressive group of transfer players that is currently ranked as the No. 4 transfer portal class in the country by 247Sports. Michigan has the 10th-ranked portal class, but Cadeau's return is a huge lift to the Wolverines' hopes of winning back-to-back titles.
The Wolverines and Hoosiers will meet once during the 2026-27 regular season, and that matchup will take place at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. A lot can happen between now and then, but DeVries and the Hoosiers have a great opportunity to make a massive statement with a win over the defending national champs.
