Senior night is always an emotional game for players and for coaches, but for Darian DeVries this season, it meant a little more as he got to celebrate his son Tucker DeVries as well. Indiana was able to come away with the monster 77-47 win over Minnesota in what was the final home game for the seniors, but DeVries was a little more focused on his son after it all.
After the win, DeVries was asked on the court what it meant to be able to coach his son, especially on such a special night like senior night, and he reminded us all that he is a dad first, always.
"You are trying not to get too wrapped up in it because you are fighting it the whole day," DeVries said. "You're a dad first, so that part was a challenge—still is, right now."

Darian DeVries and Tucker DeVries share a special moment as he subbed out in Assmebly Hall for final time
Tucker DeVires has played under his father for his entire career, starting at Drake for three seasons before following his pops to West Virginia in the 2024-2025 season. Finally, his father made the move to Indiana before the season, and Tucker decided to make one final move.
The move ended up working out for Tucker in many ways as he became a leader for the Hoosiers both on and off the court. While he may not have been the leading scorer, he was the leading rebounder, averaging 5.3 boards a game as well as 13.8 points per game.
When subbing off the court for the final time in Assembly Hall, Tucker and his father Darian shared a prolonged hug onthe sideline, both wiping away tears after.

Emotions very high as Tucker comes out the game for the last time at Assembly Hall. @WISHNews8 #IUBB pic.twitter.com/wfqXqde5ab
It is a special thing to be coached by one's parents at any age, but especially at the college level, being able to share the bond and experience is something not every parent and child gets to do. It is obvious how much he followed his dad; Tucker didn't want to be coached by anyone else, and seeing both so emotional on the sideline is a very heartwarming thing for any sports fan.
