Darian DeVries, Indiana can send a statement by landing this transfer during his visit

Indiana could use the scoring ability of this transfer prospect and would love to stick it to Notre Dame.

Indiana is right back to where it was this time last year, with head coach Darian DeVries scouring the transfer portal in order to build a team for next season. While Hoosier fans wanted DeVries to build a roster that would last longer than one season, DeVries knows he needs experience on the court.

One of the first transfers that Indiana will be hosting is former Notre Dame point guard Markus Burton. The former guard went down with an ankle injury after just 10 games this past season, but in those 10 games, he was looking to have a career year.

Burton was on pace to average 18.5 points per game this season with 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists. It was looking like he could be the piece Notre Dame needed to kickstart the season, but instead, his injury was devastating for the Irish, and now he is looking for a new home in what could be his final season of college basketball.

Markus Burton could be the spark Indiana needs offensively next season

The Hoosiers were so close to getting a bid to the NCAA Tournament, but a late-season collapse moved them just out of contention for a spot. After not making the tournament, DeVries chose to decline any sort of postseason tournament, thus ending Indiana's season in early March.

The Hoosiers will desperately need a new leading scorer next season with Tucker DeVries and Lamar Wilkerson both out of eligibility. Burton can easily step into that role at Indiana and be the guy DeVries builds the rest of the team around.

With missing most of the season that past year, Burton could try to get two more years of eligibility, and hopefully give Indiana the retention it desperately needs. Landing Burton would also be a fun way to stick it to the Hoosiers next door neighbor in the state, Notre Dame.
