Indiana basketball is starting to pick up a little bit of steam in the recruiting department, but to the rest of the college basketball world, it looks like they are red hot. Head coach Darian DeVries landed probably his biggest commitment so far this offseason landing 4-star transfer guard Lamar Wilkerson from Sam Houston.
Not only did DeVries just land Wilkerson, but he also landed him over SEC blue-blood Kentucky, the other team the guard transfer was considering alongside the Hoosiers. Wilkerson marks DeVries' fourth commit since taking the job at Indiana, which seems like an amazing accomplishment to the outside world, but for Indiana, it still isn't enough.
The reason the college basketball world thinks that Indiana is red hot on the recruiting trail is that with the four commitments DeVries has, Indiana now has the fourth-best transfer class in the country according to 247Sports. The catch to that however from Indiana's perspective is that those four commits making up the transfer class, are the only four players on her roster.
Darian Devries has put together a top 5 transfer class in 2025
DeVries probably knew some players would end up transferring at the end of the season with former head coach Mike Woodson stepping down at Indiana, it is normal for guys to look elsewhere, especially with how the season went. However, he probably wasn't expecting the entire roster to hit the transfer portal.
Because of that, DeVries has to turn to the transfer portal himself to build a roster and he can't afford to bring in guys that need development or can be great at some point, he needs players with experience who can play now, so far that is what he has done.
The four players DeVries has brought in are as follows:
- Tucker DeVries (West Virginia)
- Conor Enright (DePaul)
- Reed Bailey (Davidson)
- Lamar Wilkerson (Sam Houston)
Every single one of those commits is a 4-star transfer to Indiana. Tucker DeVries played for his father both at Drake and at West Virginia, and Enright played for DeVries at Drake just one season ago. Bailey and Wilkerson are newer names to DeVries, but both have an amazing scoring ability and should work well off of each other.
DeVries still has a lot of work to do in the portal and has been reaching out to a lot of players, so if he can continue on this road, he can certainly build one of the best transfer classes this year, as he already has done, but he has to fill out the roster. With only one high school recruit coming in as of right now next season, That makes five players on the roster and still roughly seven spots open.
Recruiting has always been a strong trait of DeVries and he needs to stay on the path he is on right now in order to build the rest of Indiana's 2025-2026 roster for next season.
